One of the things that you need to stock up, especially if you have a baby is milk bottles. That is because breastmilk is going to be one of your baby’s main source of nutrition.
Although breastmilk is considered to be best fed to your babies up to two years of age, some mothers are unable to produce milk for that long. Which is why some would result in feeding their babies with formula milk. If you are a new parent and want to be educated on how to choose the best formula milk for your baby, then you are in luck. Today, I am going to impart some tips to help you do just that.
1. Talk with Their Pediatrician
The first thing that you need to do as a parent that wants to explore different formula milk options out there, you should always start by consulting your baby’s pediatrician. They will be the one to guide you in the right direction.
Oftentimes, they would tell you to buy formula milk that is made of cow’s milk. Most of what you can find on the store shelves are actually made of cow’s milk, so you may want to try one first. However, if your baby doesn’t like the taste of cow’s milk, then perhaps you can use Soy milk instead.
2.Exploring Other Formulas
If your family suffers from food allergies, then your baby’s doctor might prescribe a hydrolyzed formula which will make it easier for them to digest the milk.
There is even some formula milk that contains probiotics or those good bacteria that can make their guts healthier, such as in the case of eating yogurt. In fact, there is even some formula milk that contains what is known as prebiotics which is essentially carbs that can aid probiotics to stay and proliferate in your baby’s intestines.
3.Look for One that is Rich in Iron
One of the main nutrients that your baby needs is Iron, which is why it is imperative that you find formula milk that is fortified with iron, unless of course if the pediatrician tells you otherwise.
4.Use Tap if You’re Confident and Bottle Water if You’re Not
In some parts of the world, you can actually just use tap water and boil it for a couple of minutes to ensure that all of the impurities are killed off. Otherwise, you can use bottled water instead to ensure the safety and the potency of the drink.
When you are mixing the formula milk, always be mindful of the measurements. You do not want to go under or over- just the right dosage will be enough.
5.How Often Should You Give Them Milk?
In most cases, infants would require about 2-4 ounces of milk every time they feed (and will usually require three to five bottle feeds a day).
If your baby vomits the milk or if they exhibit other side effects such as diarrhea, not gaining weight, among other things, then you may need to switch to another formula instead.
